Default Top speed limiter

Is there a way I can tell if my car is top speed limited without pushing it that far. I have friends that told me there camaro shuts off at 125 but theres was a V6 mine is a 94 Z28. My car only register 115 though.

call the dealer. they should be able to tell you. i pushed my other cars to the limit to see what it was. my friends sunfires limit was at the end of the speedo. 115. while my dodge spirit read all the way to 120. but topped at 90. so you can ask and do it the easy way. or you can do it the fun way.

If the car came with non-Z rated tires it is speed limited. Best guess would be 115 MPH.

Mine starts slowing itself back down at 110, and its a '94, V6...[sm=guilty.gif] I had to do it...couldn't resistit anymore, 2 days after I bought it, the need to see what it would do and how quick it would do it was driving me crazy [sm=drooldude.gif]

It may work for some of you but....
A friend of mine has an early 90s' pick up and he took it to the 100mph speed limit. He put the automatic into 3rd and was able to exceed that limit. The TCC would not act as the limiter in 3rd. Also he does not have z rated tires on his truck

1986 z28 tpi, 150 in third (maye have been faster, i have big rear tires) right around 4500 rpm. coulda went faster, but i didnt want to push it since the road wasnt visible over a hill, tires arent z rated, and didnt want to blow her up

someone correct me if im wrong but im pretty sure in the 4th gen Z28s if the car came without z-rated tires it was limited and came with the 115mph speedo... if it did come with z-rated tires it didnt have a limiter and had aspeedo that goes to 150?

Limited 4th gens came with a 115mph speedo and were governed at 108mph. If it came with Z rated tires, it has no limiter and has the 150mph speedo.

Hey if got a chip to take the limiter off and got a stock 150 mph gauge cluster would the computer have to be programed to make the new spedo work right.

not sure, always had cars with either a speed cable, or a speed sensor that told the cluster what to show. see which you have. most likely a speed sensor. but check the back of the cluster too and see what you see lol. very vague. i know dont hate me
