Default Steering wheel removal

Ok so I'm getting out of my car the other night and unbeknownst to me I kinda push on the steering wheel to get out of the car, something I never noticed.... UNTIL the top half of the steering wheel broke and folded back. OH ****, I say. SO, my camaro is an '00 and has an airbag.... any ideas on removal and installation without having to go to the dealer and drop damn near $800 (already called and sharted in my pants)

...any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Cale

Get yourself a good manual and follow the instructions exactly. You don't want to risk setting the air bag off with your face on top of it. Next time don't push on the steering wheel so hard, LOL

[8D] factory manual will be best, ebays usually got good prices. make sure the key is off(removed to be sure) so the system isnt energized the rest should just be screws and nuts. my 95 factory manual gives 7 steps for safe removal including removal of air bag fuse and yours should be the same or similar but get the manual to be sure kurt

When you do disconect power to the air bag wait for about 10 minutes so the power drains down in the DERM (diagnostic energy reserve module). I never did because I did not want to wait ten minutes but it may be a good idea. But its just what they told me to do in my I-Car class on restraint systems.
I don't know about your air bag but I have come across air bags in later GM's that have springs where you have to use a tool to pry the tension offthrough the back side to remove the bag from the wheel. Early ones just had small bolts through the back.
