Default Starting problem

Hello-
I am having problems starting my Camaro.
The engine cranks, but will not fire.

Some details.
It is a '67 Camaro with an 1980 350 dropped in.
Prior to this, I had not turned it over in a year or two.

Prior to cranking I squirted in some Marvel's into most of the cylinders.
I checked the carb, and gas does squirt into there.
The air filter is pretty clean.
So gas and air do not seem to be a problem.

I also dropped in a new battery and I then pulled out a spark plug, rested it on the manifold, and cranked. There was no spark.
So then I went to autozone and got a new ignition cylinder, and repeated the test. Still no spark.

So now I am stumped.
The wiring in the car is pretty messed up from the previous owners, but the wires are firmly attached to the ignition cylunder and the starter is cranking.
In between I can not tell.
Ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Does the new motor have the HEI dist? Sometimes people do tune ups and forget the button in the middle of the cap that goes under the internal coil on them. Is there volts to the coil when the key is in the on position? If it is an external coil pull the wire from the cap, pull back the boot and leave it sit in the hole or near a ground and crank and watch for spark. If none then no voltage to the coil, coil bad, no signal to the coil, points closed, points burned or crudy, coil wire bad.

he has a 1980 engine so there are no points. did it run before? is it a stock HEI? then your module could have gone bad.
