Had to get my car towed 2 nights ago cause the starter/ignition thing wasnt working, or something similar to that, I don't really know. It's at the shop now, but they wont get to her till Tuesday, how long does a repair like that take?

 

if its just the starter it takes an hour or less to change.

its not the lock/key part, its like something electric ehh

 

starter or solonoid. an experianced mechanic could change the starter in 20 min. u could do it in less than an hour with some tools, jack stands and a car jack. and a book. lol.

 

It turned out to be a completely corroded battery line, they replaced it and recharged my battery, and are now fixing/checking out my turn signals. They've been not working properly for a while(not automatically turning off after the quarter turn or so like they should)

 

Sorry to be bring this back from the dead of a week.... How would you know if it was a bad starter or solenoid? My 2001 camaro has been giving me trouble 2 times now.

What would happen is that I would turn the key to the ignition and it would power up all the lights and guages but not turn over. I dont even here a click from contact of the starter. Then if I wait a bit or what the tow driver did was flick/turnover the ignition a dozen times and it started. He said that he did it because it needed the contact from the starter and being that it is from a Camaro, it happens alot and happens to be the starter.

If anyone could tell me how to figure out if either is going bad, greatly appreciated because I dont want to spend $140 for a new starter and it wasnt that.

Ever since the car has given me trouble and then it starts, no issues or problems till it suddenly doesnt want to start.

 

Is your security light in the dash going on when it does that?
If not, do you have a test meter? Hook up a test meter to check the small wire on your starter solenoid. When the key is turned to the start position, that wire should read 12 volts, or close to it. If it does read 12 volts, you either have a bad starter, a bad positive or negative battery connection, a bad battery to starter connection, or a bad frame to engine ground. Check everything.
If you get no reading at all on that small wire, you have other ignition electrical problems.

 

If you mean flashing/blinking from the security light from the dash when I try to start it, Yes I do... What could it be?
