Default Stalls at stop

I run the 67 about once a week. Last run it was cutting out at stop and running rough at stand still if I didnt keep the revs up. This happened all of a sudden, last run was smooth a couple of weeks ago. I listened into the carb (2 barrel rochester) and there was a strange popping, not very loud, just not normal sounding. Also the exhuast smelled strange kind of a plastic smell but not really. Normally it has a strong fuel smell, but runs fine. I am guessing bad gas, but wouldnt think it would go that bad in just a couple of weeks. Maybe choke or clogged carb. Just looking for some other ideas or checks to do. Thanks.

check your mechanical and vacum advance and make sure its workin. sure sounds like a carb thing though. did u pull some plugs and see what they look like? did u just get gas. maybe some water in there. could be the carb just needs a rebuild or the plugs need changin.

I'll have to check the plugs, dont know too much about the vacuum though. The gas in it is over a month old, but I wouldnt thing it goes bad that fast. I know the carb needs to be replaced, but it was doing ok. I will start with the plugs, too easy to not check. Thanks.

allot of the time if a motor sets for some time moisture will rise up threw the distributor. aside from not being nice to the rest of the parts in there this moisture can cause the vacum and mechanical advance parts to rust and lose ability to move as it should. take the distributor cap off and check the underside of the cap for any droplets of water. look at and under the points and there base, if u still have points, check around for any sign of rust.

So I went on a shopping spree. New distributor cap, button, wires, and plugs. While I was at it I put in some gas treatment and have some fuel stabilizer for the next top off. Put it all together and everything is nice and smooth again. Thanks for the tips.
