Skinnies on the street
I'm building a 78 Camaro with a 500+ horse 388 stroker,3.90 gears,Auburn posi unit, and a 350 trans. I'm on kinda a tight budget here also. I'm mainly going to be drag racing it but I will drive it on the street every now and then. Itmight beconsideredmore ofa Pro Streeter. To save from buying aseparate set of tires and wheels for the street and the track, would it be alright to run skinnies on the front? I'm probably going to run either regular tires or MT ET Street Drag Radials on the street. Also what width do you I should run on the front and radial or bias ply? Is anybody elserunning skinnies on the street and if so howdo they like them? Thanks inadvancefor the help!

RE: Skinnies on the street
Thanks man. I'll probably go with the Hoosiers front skinnies. Another question, does anybody have any experience with the Jeg's brand Sport Lite or Sport Star Cast Aluminum Wheels? They look identical to Weld Draglites and Pro Star but are theyanywhere nearthe same quality as Weld? Once again I'm on a budget and I want save as much as I can if I can get about the same product.
Here's the link to the Jegs wheels:

RE: Skinnies on the street
I like to get my stuff mostly from Jegs. Summit can get my stuff here quicker since I'm located in middle GA and there is a huge warehouse in McDonough,GA, but they're so stingy with crap. Jegs sends me a hat or something else for free with just about every order plus they have free 1-2 day shipping on orders with no additional charges,I believe. I've spent a lot of money with Summit as well and they've only sent me one hat. I'm sure Summit is a great company and everything but Jegs seems to go out of their way to make you buy from them again. Anyway enough with my rant...
I think I'll go with Weld Draglites for the front,a pair of Jegs Sport Lites for my street tires, and a set of Weld Draglites for my slicks. That waythe Weld Draglites and the Sport Lites will look nearly identical on the street andthe Sport Lites will probably be fine for the street and the Weld wheels I know I will be great.Who makes a good inexpensive 27" or 28" radial street tire(no drag radials if can avoid them because of their higher cost)? Thanks!

RE: Skinnies on the street
Hello. I have a 1969 Camaro RS/SS that I've been running a set of Convo-Pro skinnies. I've ran thesefrom 1991 to current and have found them to be fine on the street. I'm an extreamist and have tested the skinnieswith the utmost punishment in the corners, and you'll do fine on the street. No failures yet. The sieze and brand im running are Hercules Superior Metric II, 185 R15 m/s. They use these on Volkwagons. Theyhave a tread pattern like the M/T Sportsman fronts. I think they cost around $75.00 each. Dont quote me on that, its been a while due to how well they last. Have Fun!!!
