In many cases (after Gen 1)the RS was an appearance upgrade from the base Camaro. You could get the upgraded interior and sporty looks with aspoiler and ground effects...however, it was usually onlyordered by Chevrolet dealerhips in a V6. (I soldChevrolet cars/trucksfor 20 years)

When it came to V8 cars...they ordered the Z28 package for the ultimate performance version.

Back in the day... RS wasaffectionately referred toas "real slow" by the Z28 owners.

I was one of the Z28 "gotta have a V8 guys"
Fomerowner 73' Z28, RS, 350, v8, 4-speed, 4.10, etc.

And I have the speeding tickets to prove it. Having owned over 15 muscle cars during the 70's.
They were "ALL" v8's...Pontiac GTO, Olds 442, Dodge Charger, Camaro Z28, Chevelle SS, etc.

Now I drive a 3.8 V6 and andstop at the gas station mostly to by Coke andBaby Ruth bars.
Perceptions can change with ageand insurance was not $150 per month back then.

yeah i tried going with the smaller engine when i bought a truck as a daily driver but a few months later having that truck just gave me the opition of pulling the engine in my 77lt and making it faster since i didn't use it as a daily driver any more so that kinda of back fired on me and i already got the speeding tickets from when it was stock

Yeah I have a '98 RS. Its not the fastest thing in the world thats for sure. But its not slow either. I blew the doors off a Mustang GT the other day (Made me proud!). It wasnt suped up or anything just had the flowmasters on it just like mine. The only thing I envy about that car is the way the 4.6L growls for a small V8 engine. I would kill to have mine sound like that.
