Default Rear end options

I have a 98 v6 camaro with a rear out of a 2002(3:42 posi) ws6 I bought like 4years ago and now it's dying. Ok, so if I drive straight it's good. Now if I'm turning right or left from a stop it like pops. So I pull the cover and looked in the center section (spider gears) and found some chunks missing. So my question is what can be done? My ring&pinion look great! Can I just get a center section and put my ring on and drive away? Options???? Thanks

all depends on where the chunks went. i would clean it up real good and change the axle and center section bearings.

There is chunks of gear teeth in the center section gone, so that has to be replaced?

that is not what you asked, if your replacing the center section with a known good center section it would be a very good idea to replace the bearings in the center section and the axle bearings and seals. if the gears are worn or broken and your going to rebuild it you will need a rebuild kit for it to go with the new gears. rebuilding or replacing a center section and replacing the spider gears is not something i would recomend for the inexperianced gearhead.

Why not just change the spider gears and clutches? It's the least expensive back yard repair, just make certain you get all the chunks out. Now, what I would do is tear it down, clean/inspect the pinion housing out real good, the oil galley in the snout likes to collect the bits of gear, replace the bearings, seals, spider gears, posi clutches. Your basic rebuild.

yes there will be issues. the traction control units are 4 channel and abs only are 3 channel.

non traction control has one sensor in the center section and the traction control unit has two sensors, one on each wheel. yes you could switch the center section but you would need to switch the reluctor ring from the old ring gear to the traction control ring gear.

Oh kind of a pain... I think I'll just look for a 3 series complete rear. Thanks
