Default quick oil question???

ok so im getting a car with a crate engine in it and the engine has 8k miles on it...the guy is running mobile 1 sythetic oil and says it burns some oil(half a quart since the engine was bought) so is that normal, is the sythetic too good and should i run it on regular oil to let the rings set better or what should i do. all answers are apreciated. one more thing i was wondering if it will be bad for the car to run it hard wen it is burning this oil and if im gana lose any noticable horsepower over this. thanks again

its a new crate its a 350. umm he put some headers on it but thats mostly it. someone told me once that if u run sythetic right from the start they rings will never set and u will burn oil. not sure if thats true but he said that because sythetic is so good. so i dont no wat to do about it bc i dont wana lose HP over this ... i could bore it out i dont no i could use some help.

It depends on how the engine was built. Engines on new cars are built with tight tolerances, and thin rings. They do not need much breaking in and are OK with synthetic right away. Your crate enginemayhave been built the old fashioned way with loose tolerances and stiff rings, inwhich case it should have been broken in using regular oil. See if you can find out who built the engine, and ask them.
