Oil viscosity - too thin?

Oil viscosity - too thin?
My car is low mileage (28100 miles)...
I put Mobil1 synthetic 5w30 in it about 2600 miles ago (almost 6 months ago). Over the past week, it's been 100 degrees and above here in louisiana. Do you think it's hot enough that the thin oil I'm using might actually cause some damage or wear? I'm only averaging about 500 miles a month, so by the time I have 4000miles on it it will be October (colder hopefully). But man - sometimes it still ain't cold in louisiana, even in the winter.
Is 5w30 something I really ought not be using anyway in a climate with extreme summers and mild winters? The manual recommends 5w-30. Although, maybe it was written in Canada - the same place the car was made. Think I should take the 5w30 jug I just bought and exchange it for some 10w30?
I know that 5w30 is thinner than 10w30, but they both end in 30, so they're the same when they're hot right? My oil's thinner when cold than when hot, which would be more beneficial in the winter, but does it really matter that much that I have it in the summer? would 5w mean that my oil can move around more when my engine is cold (hahaha - "cold" - yeah right...). OR - should I actually go for something like 10w-40?
I never race or do burnouts. Heck, I hardly get it much over 2500 rpm

RE: Oil viscosity - too thin?
Back before Corvettes started coming from the factory with Mobil1 in them, they had an oil cooler. When they started using Mobil1 off came the cooler, since synthetics can take much higher temperatures. I would not worry about it at all. But as '8er says, a high mileage car is another matter.

Yep you guys are right about the higher mileage car. I used Mobil 1 5w-30 last time I changed my oil. I could have used 10w-30 also but it doesn't really matter with me either since my car has only 42,000 miles. Summers here are about 90-100, and winters can range from 32-75.
