Default My first Camaro - Help

Hi guys, brief summary (scroll down if you're bored easily). I'm 24 years old and have always loved the Camaro. Since I was in middle school me and my friend used to have Mustang vs Camaro debates. I've sworn the first car that I buy with my own money will be a Camaro.

That said...

I have been shopping recently. I think if I get something that is in good shape and running (mid 80's) I am looking at 10k'ish. If I get something that is not running and needs a little work, I'm looking at 1-3k.

But I guess my question is, if I go the "project" rout, how much should I expect to spend to get the car running? I'm not concerned with the aesthetics, I can fix those with time. But I don't want to have to worry about being stuck on the side of road if you know what I mean.

Thanks in advance for the help / advice.

You can get the sickest LS1 Camaro for 10K. That's all I know.

Yep. I picked up my 2001 SS with 34K miles for $9500 just a few months ago. Deals are out there if you know where to look. If you are looking for bang for the buck, go with the newest car you can find.

Try to get a Z28. At the price of an SS you can get a Z28 with a lotta mods.

A little outside my budget.

I'm hoping for under 5k with a engine that runs, and I can work on the rest.

No offense, but I really don't like that model.

Well it's not that I don't like it, but I wouldn't spend my money on it. I like the older models.

How much are we talking for a mid 80's z28 with a engine that runs well? The aesthetic stuff I can get fixed, but I don't know jack about engines.

For 5K you can find a pretty nice car, at least here in Houston area. There was a real nice one here for 7500 about a month ago on CL. It was an 80 Z 28.

You may want to post this again on the 3rd and 4th gen forums too. There is a ton of advice on this question.
