[&:] for someone who cant afford gas or insurance to begin with there arent gonna be alot of options aside from changin cars that will be cost effective for you. if you cant just get a daily driver p.o.s and keep the f body for the weekend warrior then drive like grandma for the best mileage and shop for the best insurance rates and possibly (gasp) liability only on your policy kurt

That's pretty much my situation. I have a '91 Accord i'm driving right now using to deliver pizza and other **** and my Camaro is off the road atm just chillin. I'm saving money on gas etc with the accord and I'm gonna put some money into my camaro or sell it and get a better one.

As for the fuel economy...well my v6 'maro got less than 20 mpg, but then again I drove that thing like it was nobody's buisness.

Insurance for me ins't a big issue...I was paying like $110 a month (and I'm 17) because it was under my dad's name and he told them it was his "weekend driver"

you say you have a 92 z28 with a 305 tpi but then you say you should look for another 305 tbi im confused, do you think buying another camaro will really be cheaper in the long run ?

my 92 3.1 v6 Fuel injected auto, 3.42 gears...31 mpg hwy, and mid 20's city

my 96 3.8 v6 camaro auto, 3.42 gears...low 20's city, high 20's hwy

a 86+ 2.8 would be fuel injected, but obviously, the better condition of the engine will result in better gas mileage

that's pretty good for having 3.42 gears, i'm probably getting a little better with the 3.23 gears. my guess is around 30-35 hwy

I got into camaro's when I was 14 , which was when I got my first camaro. a 1979 Camaro just a regular Sports Coupe w/ a 305 w/ 4 barrel rochester quadrajunk. That later changed to a edelbrock performer 4 barrel 650 cfm. When it came time for me to drive it. It made me really mad cuz the tranny went out in it ( TH- 350 ) . So i got it rebuilt, then about a month later the engine sounds like its gunna throw a rod. And so I parked it and haven't driven it since. Now I have a 1991 camaro RS. It is my dependable car ... or was supposed to be till I was stupid and started hot rodding it around. And now the tranny is going out in it. I agree with MadMikeZ28, dont think it's a race because there are alot of consequences that come with doing so. like tickets... i have racked up 3 tickets all a month apart from each other and i have only had the car since June or July. Another is gas mileage. Obviously your gas mileage goes to **** when you hot rod in it everytime you get in the car. But now since I have straightened up and drove like a granny I get WAY better gas mileage. Which has nearly doubled from what it was. But you say you have a z28 w/ a 305 TPI . I haven't heard of that before. Thats what I would like to do go from TBI to TPI but i dont wanna pay out the **** to get it.

drive safe and slow down, cops love kids w/ sports cars. I know this from personal experience.

Peace,

Z3R0

This is kind of off topic, but cops must hate me. I've been pulled over twice, once for speeding in my old '89 Silverado before it got jacked from my school parking lot, and again in my dads '02 Z71 for unintentionally peeling out infront of a cop, and I got off scott free both times.

But yeah, like everyone else said driving habits play a big part in gas mileage. One week it seemed like I was running late for school and work every day, which means driving like a mad man in some spots, and doing 80 on the freeway, and I got like 11mpg in my 4.3L Blazer, but when I baby it or I'm on the highway for long distances I can get around 18-19mpg. So just slow down a bit. And if I were you I'd just go with liability until you can scrounge up some extra money for full coverage. I wouldn't blame you for wanting full coverage though, when my Silverado got stolen, the only reason I was able to buy another car was because I had full coverage, and they gave me hella money for it ($5k).
