Default LS1 idle problems

I'm working on an '02 LS-1 that surges andstalls at idle intermittently. I replaced the alternator because the A/C voltage was high and now it has a code 1637 stored. The car has a mild cam and stall converter and is an SLP car. The MAF seems to read a little high but maybe is right for the modifications, about 11.3 gm/sec. It also pings at about 4,500 rpm under heavy load. Any input/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

sounds like a tuning issue. what are the cam specs? mine idles like crap, surging, dying, complaining. ive got some tuning to do to it but cam cars wont ever run as smoothly as a stock car will

I'm not sure on the cam specs, it was in the car prior to me, it's not radical at all. The stall is a 2800 very minor as well. I run 91 octane. the car is quick out of the hole, pulls strong on the bigger end, just pings a little, in a normal car , I think it would be a fuel or timing issue. The car 4 days out of 7 will run and drive great, the other 3 days it dies when you put it in reverse, or when you accelerate hard and then let off it will die, come to a stop it will die, it also surges sometime at idle, not all of the time though. the car has been tuned. Some times I get a rear O2 code, but the reoccuring code is the is the " L " turminal on the generator.

why is your car abnormal?

it IS a fuel/timing issue. fuel + timing = tuning.
is it dying when you are in a parking lot as well? some of these things can be indicative of a bad tune. the motor isnt making enough torque to correct small problems or additional (unfueled) stress at low rpm, so it dies. if im not careful mine will die ifi turn the steering wheel to the max. i just need to lean it out a little i think. got any dyno shops around>?

They are the ones that tuned it. I forgot I put a ported throttle body on it, it does have a slp MAF. I have had the guy tune three times, he sets the idle, and it's good for a day or two then back to it's old tricks. That's the thing, why does it run good some days and not others???

he probably isnt tuning the MAF, so he gets the fuel trims dialed in and after a week or so the MAF pulls them back to where they were. an untuned maf can be a pain in the butt, and its the reason why my car is speed density.

yeah a 2800 stall is only really good for hot cams, if you use anything bigger you will need a higher stall
