loud whine
Hey this post is actually about my 1963 chevy pickup. I have a 402 big block and a turbo 400 trans. When i first start the truck it runs fine but, when i take it down the street a loud high pitched whine starts. As I rev the motor the whine increases in intensity. I have replaced the alternator thinking that it was my problem. i started it up and took it out the driveway and to my disappointment the whine was still there. can anyone please give me some suggestions on were to go from were to try and dignose this problem.
Agreed, try pulling the belts off and doing a short drive to see if the noise is gone.
If it is gone start checking the rest of the driven parts,PS is a good possibility but I haven't seen many of those old Chevys with it.
Maybe yours has it since it's obviously not stock.
Might be in the trans or even something rubbing on the driveline.
Could be the flexplate rubbing the cover or something like that too.
I've even found exhaust leaks that whistle and sound like that.
