RE: i have this problem
A clogged cat will make things worse as engine speed increases. Most times when an engine bogs it is due to a fuel problem. Do you notice black smoke when you push it from a dead start? You may want to check the fuel pressure and pressure regulator function.

This is when one of those $49.95 code readers can pay for itself. The computer knows where the general problem is, you just have to have it tell you. The paper clip thing could work, but with my bad eyes I would probably miss a blink or two.
If this was on an engine with points I would blame the settings, as I have encountered the same problem. But that isn't the case here.

Madmike, maybe I am finishing your sentence, but my reader can turn off the SES light. My '99 SES light came on. Bought the reader, it said no codes were set, I erased, and the light stayed off. I had been through several cycles of start, run, shut down, and my guess is that the computer removed the code but could not turn off the light.
I would have a tough time finding a shop to do this for $50, so I say it has paid for itself already. Hope I don't need it again, but if so, I have it....
