Default HELP!...No "ASR OFF" or ASR switch light

Hey guys! This is my first time posting to this site and I really need some help with this. I've searched high and low and haven't been able to find any help.

I bought my 98 Camaro and immediately noticed that there was no ASR switch. There is a hole for the ASR switch, but whoever owned the car before me must've taken it out. I bought a new one and installed it only to find out that it still did nothing. I reset the ECM/PCM and gave it some time...nothing.

The orange indicator light on the switch doesn't come on and after doing some research found out that there is supposed to be an "ASR OFF" light on the instrument cluster that comes on when you turn on the car and when the ASR switch is flipped. This light doesn't come on either...ever. Did a little more research to find out that you can't just pull a fuse to disable the ASR/TCS as it will disable the ABS as well. After doing some "behind the wheel" research found out that my ABS works just fine and there are no fuses missing anywhere.

I'm stuck and any help/input would be awesome!

How do you know that your car came stock with ASR? That might be the problem.

As far as I know I'm pretty sure it did come stock with ASR because when I bought the car there was a whole in the dash next to the fog light switch and there was a connection swingin' around behind the dash that fits perfect for the ASR switch that I bought and installed. I also looked at the instrument cluster and there IS an ASR OFF light that never comes on, but I'm not sure if that's on every car, ASR equipped or not.

I've never tried to do a brake stand, if that's what you mean. It is only a V6 and I can do a small burnout in 1st gear when it's dry, but nothing like I had hoped a Camaro would do when I first bought it. Now, when it's raining/wet I can spin the tires all day long, which I wouldn't think I could do if ASR was working, wet or not.

Hi there. I believe that '98 was the first year that ASR became an option on the V6, it was not standard. However with most 'options' on cars the wiring etc was still installed as they were often pre-assembled bundles that wire-up behind the dash. The hole in your dash would probably have held a blank to cover the hole.
