help with engine casting date

RE: help with engine casting date
I Think this car was raced or something, because it has the angle plug heads that came out in 1970. I took the motor apart and its a 350 crank with the casting number 1182 which came out in 1967 camaro ss. The rods and pistons were the floating wrist pins and small dome pistons. This motor must of had over 11.1 comp. The block had been 0-ringed. and thats only done if theres alot of compression. That makes me think the block has been dected alot. Most engines the pistons set in the hole around 20 to 30 thousands. So if they 0 dected the block that could had removed the numbers. some of theresearch i done I've herd of this before. The tranny also had a shatter shield bell housing. What research i've done the 010 block came out in mid-late 69. So what do you guys think?

RE: help with engine casting date
[&:] i think were a lot closer to the truth about what motor it is that we have. obviously you have a 350 with a cast date of 1977 that someone has stamped to look like the original block, i just dont know if there could be any other possibilities. it also sounds like it was a potent little mouse that put out some really good HP. hopefully you got a good deal on it and a premium was not paid for the "original 302 motor" that was supposedly in it. you have obviously come across thge same info i have for the crank and block and with that info its obvious that someone made a pretty good attempt to make it look like the original 302 engine. this may be a bonus as now we dont have to worry so much about keeping the original parts from scattering on the street and you can now go out and flog it like it sounds like it built to do without worrying so much kurt
