Ok im pertty sure but not to sure but people buy the shortys for more ground clearance, there cheaper, and i think you will lose alittle horsepower with the shortys. But i would just go with the long tube headers im goin to be buyin some Kooks Long Tube Headers for my '02 SS and they make them for the LT1 also.

My philosophy, if you have to get under the car and rip the old system out, do it so you don't ever have to replace them again. I'd go for LT headers and a Y pipe to match. I love my Kooks long tubes, quality far surpasses any other header I've seen, and ground clearance is only an inch less than stock, so it's really nothing to worry about. Installation of the long tubes requires you to jack the motor up, which you may not have to do with the shorties, but the LT's will get you more torque. You won't necessarily make anymore HP with the LT's because they'll flow the same as a set of shorties, but if you do decide to go with the shorties, you need to get a good mandrel bent Y pipe to match them or they'll get you nothing because the stock Y is extremely restrictive.
