The GPH (gallon per hour) is the volum. Like if you look in a sumit catalog there will be the Holley blue fuel pump that pumps 110gph at 14 psi or the black that pumps140 gph at 14 psi.
But being out of fuel is a good posibility.

well i got more gas and that didnt work.

this is the full problem: the motor ran fine the first few times i started it up. i put new atf in the transmission, started the engine up, pulled about 4 ft forward. after i pulled forward the engine started to run really crappy. it would rev up, then almost die, rev up then almost die, rev up then almost die, rev up and then die. after a few times of starting it up and havingit continually do that, it wont start up at all anymore. there is some gas coming out of the injectors but it wont start up. i can spray some starting fluid into it and it would start up, run for a second, almost dies a couple of times and then it dies.

i have a carter p74017 pump. i looked around the web to find out the gph because it doesnt say on the box and i came across another forum that said that this pump has 30gph wide open and 10-14psi, which they say is not enough for a TBI. one guy recomends http://store.summitracing.com/partde...p;autoview=skubecause its self-priming and runs at 50ghp at 20psi.

mad mike, do u think one of those holleys you listed will work the best?im assuming that my problem is not having the right pump.

I think that fuel pump in your link is the same one I put on the TBI swap I did.

well i figured out why it wasnt starting. it turned out that i did run out of gas, causing the fuel pump to suck air and not enough gas. i disconnected the gas line behind the pump to see if there was gas getting to it and only a little trickled out.

that fuel pump in the link i posted is self priming, does that mean it sucks gas from the tank itself? if thats what priming means, then i was just trying to prime the line myself but i couldnt stand the gas in my mouth and on my face long enough to get the gas flowing again. man that stuff is nasty.

do you thinkthe 30gph pump i have on right nowdoesnt have enough volume to it? i dont want to spend $130 on another fuelpump if its not worth it. do you think its worth it?

Drive it and see how it goes. If you can open the throttle and not get any fuel starvation then you should be fine. I gave up my book that had specs of factory pumps so I can't say what the volumn should be.
