Default Engine Identification

I just bought a 350 that supposedly came from a 1972 corvette. The engine number stamped on it is K0309 800. The first 5 digits make sense, but I can't find any information on the engine suffix 800.

If anyone knows anything, I'd be happy to listen.

[&:] is it just me or has anyone ever thought what happened to all those corvettes that all the 350 corvette motors your buddy sold you came out of??? im thinkin that the term is used rather loosely if not fraudulantly. often the raw casting of the block was no different than that of a station wagon. it was in the stamping and sometimes internals that made for a true corvette motor the rest may be corvette specs. i think youll need to do more research as i dont find the 800 portion of your code in any of my reference materials( while im certainly not the go to guru i do have a small reference library for this subject). as for k0309 well its assembly plant , month and year. i do find some blocks with the 8 listed as a marine application but they dont include the 00 part of the stamp. i do believe there is a possibility it could be a replacement block ordered as a part through the parts dept. this would negate a true factory corvette motor(maybe some exceptions) although it may have been built to factory corvette specs or used as a replacement for a corvette motor. what is the block casting number and date?? 3970010 or "010" blocks were a common for corvette but were used in almost all other gm applications as well, including trucks. these were often four bolt main and would have been stamped C for car and T for truck most often in the position you find the 8 in on your block. if no other letters appear on that pad where you found these i suspect you have a replacement block as usually a vin# was also stamped onto that pad for its specific car. kurt
