Couple of questions.
I'm going to be buying a second or third generation Camaro soon. I have a few questions about it though.
1. What was the first year that the top speed limiter was put in the Z28? I think it was when the SS was introduced but I'm not sure.
2. I have gotten different answers about where it is actually limited. Is is at 108 or 116 mph.
3. How much power can the car handle before it starts breaking the tranny or drive shaft. I have a friend who has a 86 Firebird with a 350 Oldsmobile Rocket in it that's making about 350 HP to the wheels with non performance parts except for the engine.
4. What do you guys think is the best year for thrid generation Camaros. I think I want an 89-92, and I know I want the Z28.

1. I do not know. Was it same year with the 85MPH speedo?
2. I do not know, but a wire unplug is all that is needed.
3. Go watch the Camaros that show up for time slips betting. They are over 600HP and if you want to beef up the chassis, you beef up the rest is called the chassis can only take so much is twist the frame. So, HP is unlimited sorta.
4. Best year is the one you want the most between those years. Parts are parts but the body line says it all.

I thought the speed limiter was started with fourth gen at 110. The only telltale sign is speedo and factory tires the cars with a 150 speedo and z rated tires were not limited. In my opinion for a thired gen car it would be an 86 I-ROC I had a body and trans in high school the motor died while I was working out the kinks. I bought an over priced truck straight out of school and never got the money to fix the car.
