COOLING OFF MY 71 350 automatic..HELP
I have a lot of start and stop traffic I have to endure as of late, and as always while stopping and starting my temp fluctuates above the 160 degrees mark and can reach as high as 230, of which really heats up my interior unfortunately... Then it will go back to normal when my speed increases.. good reason to always drop the pedal to the floor, but the cops won't accept that excuse.. Can someone please tell me where exactly my temp should be on average, in addition to if changing my thermostat from what I believe to be a 195 degree stat to something smaller would cool me off with all my starting and stopping.
Also a friend of mine said a fan spacer would be the answer. I have hesitations because isn't a spacer only to bring the fan closer to the radiator? My year has the engine speed controlled fan of course, no electric. I want to be able to get off as inexpensive as I can here, and if the stat is the answer to go to a lower temp rating, I can do that for under 10 bucks..
any help would be much oblidged.
Thank you
