looking for a newer z28 or ss and don't know which is better 6sp or automatic. I want the one that is faster and more reliable. Also is the 01 and 02's faster than the 98-00's.

Depends on who's driving it and how long your going to keep it. Your wife or girl friend would probabley prefer an automatic and you will too when you get a little older and get tired of shifting your ***** off. Believe it or not, the automatic would probably be faster off a stop light. Unless your a really good driver the stick would be hard too hook up without some kind of slicks.

 

An auto with abig stall and good tires will simply KILL a similarly modded 6 speed.

 

i have no problems with my auto and i hear the automatics are faster because the sticks have a crappy first gear.

 

depends on what you like...

6spd for the Fun factor and they also (generally) eat less horsepower

but like stated above, autos are faster unless your a wicked shifter

 

everyone says the autos are faster , does that apply only to the LS cars or the LT cars also? cause all the races i have been in with another F-body that's where i get my jump is off the line. the few LS1 cars i have ran i ALWAYS get them off the line and for the first 60-80 ft then they catch me on the top side. i ran a Vortec supercharged 402 cu.in. LS6GTO @ the track last time i was there and i jumped him for the first 60 ft , then he came back and creamed me with a 7.90 against my 8.8.
