I changed my oil right at like 2,700mi ago and am about to changeit again to start with, but last night my "Low Oil" light came on and I was about 1-3/4 qt low. It's not leaking anywhere because my garage floor (it's home) is always clean, so I must be burning it. Is it pretty common to go through that much oil?

 

kindof... but common doesnt = good. ls1's are known to burn oil though

how is your power/how is the motor behaving? it is common, but almost 2 quarts is alot, makes me suspect something else may be wrong. does it always do this? if its a one time thing i wouldnt worry so much

 

GM's policy on new cars is or was,one quart per 1000 miles is normal use. If you have a new car and have to put a quart of oil every 1000 miles and there is no visable leaks or tail pipe smoke the dealer will send on your way. They have pisses a lot of customers off with that policy. I have never seen a pattern thatshowed a car that used oildid not last as long as ones that didn't use any oil over the3000 between oil changes.

 

Well I mean it's acting fine, I have only put about 3500 mi on the car since I've had it (closing on 3 months) so I'm not sure if this is normal for it to be consuming or not. It's behaving fine though...

 

That policy always did make me upset because thats only in place to cover their own behind...However, as long as your not leaking the oil and you change your oil normally you should be fine. Just something to keep your eye on.

 

Slick6, how do you like having the gauges on the pillar? I was contemplating that for my '91 (since the stock gauges suck), but I was wondering if the illumination from the gauges would be a distraction while driving at night? And, is that considered border-line rice? I like it though, if it works well.

 

I will disagree with them being any form of rice. Now if they were backlit blue and had white faces then yeah, probably a little.

They are fairly dim at night but still bright enough. At first they bugged me and it was like a brick sitting in my view, but that was just me getting used to them. Now I forget they're there half the time.

 

have you checked your coolant to see if its frothy? it could be a blown head gasket. just burning it sounds more realistic, but still something to check
