To do your first set of adjustments, the #1 needs to be at TDC on the compression/fire stroke. Pull the #1 plug and hold your finger over the plug hole as you bring the engine over to TDC. When you feel the air blow your finger, you'll know you're on the right stroke. But, if your valves aren't opening and closing (from having the rockers backed way off or too tight) that won't work.
What you can do, is check which spark plug wire your rotor on the distributor is pointing to at TDC. At TDC, it can be pointing to either #1 or #6. You want it to point to #1. It's possible you started your adjustment 180 degrees off-whack.

Ok well I got the car to fire but only while giving it gas. Do you think that I have the intake valves tightened properly but not the exhaust valves?

From where I'm sitting, I wouldn't have a clue. It could be either. You need to check all the valves you messed with.

Ok thank you for all the help. I finally got her running right again! I learned to adjust rockers the hard way.
