Ok, I will be ordering my headers soon, and then the only part of my exhuast I wont have a replacement for will be the cats. The car is a 2000 3.8L and I was curious if I could gut the cat without it throwing any codes. And if I cant do that would a highflow cat for a v8 car work well? I dont really know anything about catalytic converters so thats why I ask, sorry to sound like a moron.

well the only reason you would really wanna keep the cat in there is emissions. no cat is going to flow better than the highest flow cat cant flow as good as a straight pipe....but emissions frowns upon that. if no emissions just get straight tubing if you have emissions just gutting a cat can fail it too. so id suggest highflow cat then.

I had a 96 LT1 camaro when i did the pipes i had no cats but had more preformance. They also sell OBD2 sims foremission purposes. Summit sells them in thereLT1,LS1section.

If you have emissions get a good (such as Random Technology) high-flow cat, it's not going to take away any noticeable power and it'll keep the environment happy! Plus, I think V6's sound better with a cat, they just sound kinda funny without one.
