Default Cats

So i have a cat that keeps making me mad, it walks on my car and leaves marks and i caught it. I was thinking about getting it....im JK lol.

i have a 96 Z28, i have the stock exhaust system. If i gut one of the cats would it still pass smog in CA? and how different would the sound be? So pros and cons of cat gutting?

Don't know how CA emissions are but from what I hear, probably not. It may be a bit louder but wouldn't do much for you. If you want it to be a bit louder get a new muffler or get a full LEGAL exhaust for it.

CA uses a sniffer test so no, you would not pass. they are pretty good about catching that sort of thing. you would also want to make sure the flow is even to each bank. i cant remember how ur cats are on ur car, but if you are talking about gutting only a single side thats not a good idea

I can almost guarantee you're not going to pass CA emissions without both of your cats. If you're looking to do a full exhaust upgrade, start with a cat-back system. If you want to go farther than that you're going to need to go for Edelbrock or another "50 state legal" shorty header/Y-pipe system.
