big timing problem help please

Default big timing problem help please

went to the track last night. and made few runs tune the car. start with timing. here what i got! base timing 10 total 34 run a 14.266 @ 96 90% throttle base 25 run a 14.085 @ 98.03 90% throttle base 33 run a 13.764 at 99.56 90% throttle one more run like that one 13.760 at 99.84 found out the gas was not opening all the way fixed that run two more time and run 13.46x at 102.xx and 13.482 @ 102.97 so what is going on with my timing its way high for base timing?car is a 86 z28 with 350 and hei dist thanks

[X(] are the engine control systems still in place or has all that been removed?? there are connectors to be undone if computer controls are still in place in order to set timing right. also is the dist vacuum advance hooked up to manifold vacuum or ported source. usually chev small blocks like around 6 initial or base timing and 36 total. of course there are all the variances to this depending on combinations of parts but this is close in most situations. your base timing shouldnt be above ten or so as this starts to be detrimental to drivability, power production and long term survivability of the engine. kurt
