Timing problem
Yeah, I was driving my car and all the sudden I had this pop and at the same time the sound of air escaping. I noticed that my power brakes started failing also but I wasn't too far from home so I decided to try and make it the rest of the way. On the way there I noticed when I pulled up to the stop sign that I was losing power and the idle was dropping way fast. When I got home I noticed that the vacuum hose for the tranny had come off. I started it back up and it still ran like crap. I thought maybe the diaphram in the vacuum advance blew and when I put in the old one I had it seemed to run better but not as well as the original so I installed the original again. It ran better but not great so I wanted to check the timing. I got out the timing light and I had my initial timing originally set at around 13 - 15 degrees. When I checked it now it was down to 4 degrees. I had to reset the timing and the idle to get it to run decent again.
Has anyone had something like this happen to them? I think it backfired and blew out threw the vacuum hoses but why would that throw off the timing so bad?
