Default alternator problem

hi i just got a 71 camaro and after i start the car about 6 times the battery is dead. The alternator on the car is a one wire hook up that goes straight to the battery. Im wondering if anybody has had this problem and if they know how to fix it. Thanks.

Default RE: alternator problem

[X(] if just starting your car six times kills the battery its the battery not the alternator. a good battery contains more reserve than that. not to say the alt may not be working but it may be trying to charge a bad battery too. you need a voltage gauge for some more diagnosis there is the possibility your starter may be drawing more than it should but still shouldnt kill a good battery in 6 kurt
