96 z28 misfiring
If i stomp on the gas the car works fine but once i calm down the car immediatly starts to missfire, and runs like ****. Other times when the car seems to be running fine but then it will start to run like it has no ***** on normal acceleration, I thought that might just be bad mixture but honestly I have no idea. I let the car idle and poped the hood when I got home and reved it up and at all times there is a lot of noise which seems to be coming from the head, clicking clanking. I am going to open the head and see if anythig is visually screwed, unless that sounds like a bad idea. Any opinions?

If there's clicking and clanking coming from the head you could have a loose rocker arm, but you really won't know until you pull it and check. Misfires can be due to many things, such as bad plugs, wires or a bad opti. Is the SES light on? If so, go to an autozone and get the codes pulled.

[&:] id pull compression test on that and at least one other cylinder( preferably all for good comparison) to help determine if its mechanical were chasing as a cause before tearing things apart. could pull a valve cover and look and see if theres anything obvious. bad compression from rings or valves are other possibilities kurt

If you are hearing metallic noises, there is something wrong mechanically. Pull the valve cover and look at the valve mechanism for the # 3 cylinder (second cylinder on driver side). Look for loose or damaged rocker arms, bent push rods, broken springs, etc...
Three things can cause misfire: ignition, fuel mixture, poor compression due to mechanical problems. Considering the noise you are hearing, mechanical problem is a good bet. You can always do a compression test if you aren't too keen on removing the valve covers, but IMO removing the valve cover is probably easier, than trying to screw a compression tester in a LT1 spark plug hole.

Nothing was visually wrong under the valve cover, so im assuming the noise is just rocker arm adjustment. Dont know if that is enough to cause misfire, and if it was why only sometimes. I am waiting for my dad to get home from vacation so that we can run a compression test, plugs 1 and 3 are not that hard to access.
Most of the ignition system has been changed, except the ignition module. I was told that the module was bad but we put a good one in and it made no difference, so we assumed that the tester was crap and I had already spent enough money on parts that did not fix the problem.
