Default 96' convertible top cylinder fluid type

I just purchsed a used converible top cylinder off ebay. The eye end broke on mine. Does anyone know what type of fluid this takes? I have heard anything from tranny fluid,
dot 3, hydraulic jack oil, to mineral oil. It isn't red so it isn't tranny fluid. I think dot 3 would ruin the seals. It's not listed in the owners manual or chiltons. I even called the gm parts dealer and they didn't know.

I'm not sure but, hydraulic jack oil seems to be the safest choice.

Thanks for the response Uncle Bill. I just happend to have some Gunk/ Solder Seal brand hydraulic oil and it looks like the same stuff. I think that is what I will use.

It can use either power steering fluid or hydraulic oil.

Thanks shnormo. That thought crossed my mind also. I dumped a little of the power steering fluid, hydraulic jack fluid and the fluid in the cylinder onto a piece of tile and they all seem to have the same texture. I went with the hydraulic jack fluid. I used an eye dropper to fill the cylinder and the lines where they connect at the cylinder. I connected the lines and set the cylinder back in place. It wasn't that messy. The top was up but the cylinder that I replaced was in the down postion. I didn't want to disconnect it again, so I tried lowering the top with a little push. It only went so far. The replaced cylinder piston didn't move at all. I didn't want to force it. So I tried putting it back up and the replaced cylinder piston rod went up at the same time. I kept easing on the up button until it reached the hole where the pin goes through. Top works fine now.

I searched everywhere for the eye rod end and couldn't find them anywhere.
