88 350 throttle question

On my 88 350 throttle body there are 2 cables. One is unhooked and i dont know why. The cable that is unhooked is on the outside portion. It has a long slot on the eye as if it can be adjusted. I dont know exactly what this second cable does, the car apparently drives fine with just the other cable hooked up. I have not driven the car around yet due to it being winter up here, but my wife drove it home when she got it for me. Also, is there a good technical book on these cars (shop book of some sorts)? Thanks for the help.

[&:]the second cable is for the throttle valve cable for the transmission. this should be hooked up or the trans wont work right and will cause premature wear in the trans as well. the only exceptions that come to mind would be a car that has a manual trans swapped in or has had a different auto trans swapped in. if neither of these are the case then you need to reinstall this cable and then adjust it properly kurt

That makes sense because the girl I got this car from said she had the trans rebuilt less than 100 miles ago. Must be when they pulled the trans they disconnected the cable and never re-connected it. Do you know the procedure for adjusting the cable once installed?

A TV cable for the transmission will have a small plastic connector on the end. It just snaps over a pin. You would feel the tranny not shifting properly without that. The cable with a long slot would be for cruise control. Now that may be off because it might have been giving the previous owner problems and sticking or some thing.

This cable has a slot, not just a clip on eye. I have never driven the car due to just getting it this week and it being winter up here in NY so I cant verify if it shifts correctly or not. So it sounds like it is the cruse if the cruse cable is slotted at the end. I dont care much about the cruse right now, just happy to hear that its not a critical part. Maybe next summer I will look into why they unhooked it but for now I have some other smaller projects to do to it. The dash pad is cracked, the head liner is just starting to come loose, I would like to find an oem radio, and the water temp needle reads hot even when the key is off. Other than that this car is pretty good. Just a few little projects, then I can think about some bigger ones.

Another thought on why its off comes to mind. The previous owner lost the retaing clip to it. ![Wink](https://camaroforums.com/forum/images/smilies/wink.gif)
There would be a small round metal retainer that slides over a buttonand snaps into place. Might be one of those retainers on the throttle cable.

Schooled myself real quick on cruise and that is what this cable goes to. Did they have problems with the cruise on these cars or did it most likely fall off? Seems like a E clip or snap ring would hold it in place normally, which if that is the case then it sure as hell couldnt have just fallen off. Hmmm. I wish the girl that had this car was like the girls here, had a clue. The one I got this from just "drove" it. Thats about it..... errrrr.

I don't think there was any known problems with the cruise. I have heard of how some people would say their cruise just acted up and caused them to run wild. But I think that could either be an excuse for being a maniac or when you used the lever some times you can hit the cruise button and possible hit it to either resume a set speed or accelerate
