I was doing maintenance on my newly aquired 68 Camaro with the 250 ci inline 6 Cylinder engine.

I went to change the fuel filter and discovered that onethe previous owners stripped the fuel inlet fitting on the carb where the filter is located. It looks like they used JB weld or something to glue it in....[:@]

I screwed it back in and used teflon tape, but now it is leaking and can not be tightened due the the inside threads being stripped.

My question is, do they make a repair fitting for this carb, or should I buy a new/rebuilt carb? any other options?

It is a Rochester Monojet one barrel carb.

 

I have seen repair fittings I just cant remember where to get them. Check with Napa they usually have stuff like that

 

I located a Holley brand remanufactured carb at Autozone for $99.00.

I understand it is a Rochester unit that is remanufactured by Holley.

I am not even sure if the carb that is on the car is originalbecause there are no numbers on it.

They are supposed to be on around plate on the carb body, or on a tag and both are missing.

Does anyone have any experience with these remanufacturedunits?

I located a repair fitting at a local auto parts store, but it is a 7/8-20 thread and it is too small. I have not been able to locate a larger one.

I have dealt with a stripped out hole on a Quadrajunk before, and they do make a slightly oversizedfitting with notched teeth that cut in, and it does fix the problem. Unfortunately, yours must be a different size. The problem is caused from years of on and off and changing the fuel filter, and muscle-men re-tightening the fitting. Since the carb you have has the Chevy bow-tie, I would presume it's either the original that came with your car, or at least an original one. What I would do is leave the in-carb filter out, remove that plastic washer you see in the carb, and JB Weld the old fitting in place for good. Coat the threads well, but don't over do it. You want just enough to seal the threads, without having a glob on the inside. Once it cures, the gas isn't going to eat away at the JB, and your leak problem is solved. Then install a good quality inline fuel filter, and you'll be good to go.
