I have to take my Saginaw 4 speed out of my 1969 Camaro as the seals are leaking. How long does it take to get the trans out of the car and put the seals in, all three need to be replaced. Who had it last did not put the linkage bushings back in so those are also on their way. Thanks, Jerod

 

well the work itself is no biggie, 2 to 4 hours with a budies to help you lift and lower the tranny should be fine.
now for the bad news...
your car is 40 years old!!!
i hope it doesnt fight you too hard to come apart, disc and pilot bearing are going to realy not want to come apart.
then if your real lucky youll find some kind of tool to push in the seals flat against the metal lip. there is tools for the new cars buy application , i dont know if they have them for those.
patients and a shoft hammer will work usualy

 

If your disc, pressure plate, and throwout bearing are newer, you don't have to worry about messing with stuff under the bellhousing. But if they have a lot of miles, then you might as well replace them since you're in that far. Otherwise, remove the driveshaft, shift linkage, the four mounting bolts to the bellhousing, and slide the trans straight back. If you don't plan on replacing the disc, try to support the trans evenly and slide it out as straight as possible so you don't tweak the disc/pilot alignment.

 

If your 69 Camaro has a Saginaw, chances are it was added later so it shouldnt have 40 years of dirt/grime/sludge/rust to fight through.

 

It looks fairley clean other than the leaking fluid. The seals were only $20. It is leaking at the front middle and tailshaft. Thanks, Jerod
