Default Is 3000-3500 rpm to high for cruising on the freeway?

I have a T350 and 3.42 gears but my RPM's seem way high to me. Is 3000rpms @ 60 MPH to high to be cruising on the freeway? Is it OK for the engine?

I doubt that RPM will hurt the engine, but it will definitely dent your wallet. The RPM seems high for 3.42 gears, unless your gauges a lying or there is a lot of slippage in the drive train, or you are using wheelbarrow tires.

It does have a small stall, im guess like 2500, tires are 275/35/18

Can a stall affect freeway RPM's?

Based on your tire diameter (25.6"), you should be at 2693 rpm at 60 mph. Have you checked the tach against another one to know it's reading correctly?

No i have not, but even if it is only around 2700 that seems to high to be cruising down the freeway for an extended period of time does it not? I dont want to trailer my car to car shows.

if the engine is running correctly it should not harm it. will wear out fast though. had a 65 1 ton with low gears, freeway at 65 was like 3k plus. engine a 327 sbc one barrel carb is in the shop still in running condition. has about 80k miles on it. truck is scrap.
