Just been thinking about the value of the 4th generation cars compaing them to the 1st and 2nd generation cars. The 1st generation and 2nd generation camaros seem to be in high demand to restore, making everything from daily drivers to all out show cars. I see alot of fbodys, being ragged out, scrapped and just no respect for. What do you all think? Will the 3rd & 4th generation become a popular car for restoring for future generations of people or were there to many of them produced? Or is it just because I grew up admiring the 1st and 2nd generations and the young folks of today are doing the same with the 3rd and 4th generation cars?

 

i am currently restoring a third gen now. however, i feel that 20 years from now, because of all the hacked up 3rd and 4th gens there are now, there wont be as many left. also take into consideration that most of the late model cars are electronics and plastic. it makes them a bit more expensive to fix, and when the parts are no longer availible, it will be just about impossible to fix them. i dont really see cars built after 1990 lasting as long as cars from all the previous years

 

I believe a super clean, straight and highly optioned all original IROC-Z in the right color will be a great collector car one day.

 

Some of the rare 3rd gens already are. Take it from a guy who has seen solid First and Second gens cut up for scrap value it will happen. Even as recently as 10 years ago the 75-77 camaros you could not give away. Kind like the 82-85s are now. I remember taking my 74 Z clone to a body shop for a paint estimate when I was 17. It had some rot under the rear bumper and the rocker pannels where bent up from speed bumps. Shop owner told me flat out it was not worth fixing. He said he could buy 2 almost flawless bodies for was it was going to cost to get mine right. Don't worry I kept the car and painted myself 3 years later

It is hard to justify putting a lot of money in a 3rd or 4th gens body. I was at a guys house this weekend who has a 92 V6 he paid $300 for it, the body and paint looked good. The motor had spun a bearing. The paint looked original and had only a few scraches I did not see a single bubble or dent. I would have had no problem cleaning it up and adding a nice coat of wax and been good to go.

 

I believe they will one day become really popular. I think they are already on their way. I went to a knew Advance Auto parts store the other day and bought a Haynes repair manual and a customer there saw it ans asked if I had a camaro. then he said he had an 85' z28. Then, later on a store worker showed us pictures of his project camaro(third gen). I think they are on the way.

 

i think that they will eventually get some respect but not till theyre not tons of them everywhere just like microkid said

 

irocs i believe will be very popular, they where what everybody wanted back in the 80s thats 20 years ago, 10 years from now they will be hard to find and popular

 

the irocs are already desireable if you look on craigslist you'll see people trying to sell them for $15,000. i think they all will be popular someday, mostly the v8 models though, if there werent so many v6's i think there would be a higher demand for them(sorry v6 guys im not being mean i had one) i mean look at the 6 cylinder powered 2nd gen camaros and firebirds the only reason people buy those is cause theyre cheap and you can put a v8 in them, otherwise theyre crap. ive had 4 f-body cars, 2 3rd gens and 2 4th gens, and i love em and honestly the 1st gens are great but if i had the money i would definitely go with something else, i mean theyre overdone honestly, every rich older guy that has the chance gets a 69 camaro it seems like(no disrespect) my favorites are the 2nd gen z28s early and late.

 

i second that i love 70~73 78~81 i love most 3rd gens but the odd berlindetta 3rd gens and i USE to love 67~69s i told my self when i was 10 i wanted one. i now own a 79 and a 98 and i love my 79 the most. me and my dad have to rebuild his 70 1/2 we also owned a 79 when i was little( brought home from the hospital in one) as far as im concerned people instill value in them. i payed 300$ for my 79. but i value it above the 69 its just me thought.

i feel the 3rd and 4th gens will go up in price more and one day and we might be seeing 2010 camaros going for 300$ for all we know.
