1997 Camaro Misses in 4th & 5th gear
I have a 1997 Camaro with 152,000 miles. It has a bad miss when in 4th & 5th gear. I've had the coils replaced, plugs, plug wires and the sensor. Does anyone know what this could be? It gets 30 miles to gallon so I really need to drive it.

It's gota 3.8 5 speed manual. The light was on until I took it to the shop. I paid him $264.00 and it went off....but it still has the miss. He told me to put some "Techtron" in it and I did that and it still misses. The light has not come back on.....It runs great in 1st, 2nd and 3rd and if I have it in neutral it doesn't miss....its just when its in 4th and 5th gear??? I'm going to take it back to him tomorrow.

Sounds as though the mechanic feels your injectors could be clogged, and they could be. And it's probably more noticeable when the engine is under a load (higher gear). If you just put the injector cleaner in the tank, it's too early to see results. Sometimes you need to go through a couple of few tanks of gas for it to work.

So do I need to put more injector cleaner in the gas? What kind? Would it help to replace the fuel filter?
I also have a 1981 Z28 Camaro...black, silver strips....I bought brand new....it still purrrrrrssssssss!!!!
I really appreciate any help anybody can give me! I'm a single mom and these garage bills are killing my budget! Thanks Bunches!

Wasn't that "Techtron" stuff you put in a fuel additive/injector cleaner? Just follow the directions. Lucas makes an injector cleaner as well. But I would look for the strongest stuff you can get. There's no absolute guarantee that it will help, but it's worth a shot since it's the easiest and cheapest thing to try first.
And yeah, it wouldn't be a bad idea to change the fuel filter, if it's never been changed before.

Wow two Camaros...I think I'm in love!
I'll second what Camaro69 wrote about the injector cleaner. Did the mechanic happen to tell you what code(s) were stored? He should have at least put it on the work order.

I'll ask the tech what the code is......I think it had something to do with the Crank Shaft Sensor....it did the same thing back in December and he replaced it and it worked fine until about a month ago.
Do I put more injector cleaner in? How many times do I do this? I threw the bottle away.....
I'm going out of town for a few days....going to GA from VA.......
