Some advice on a carbureted engine...
Hey guys this is my first post here and it seems like a cool forum. I recently bought an 83 camaro in great condition with a bored out engine. It's a small block chevy 350 that has been made a 383 stroker. This is my first experience with a carbureted engine so I am hoping to see if anyone here can give me an idea on the performance (HP and Torque wise) that I will see when it is done being built. I will list some of the components I have purchased for it.
-Torker II Intake manifold
-Holley 750 Double Pumper carb
-World Product rockers
-World Product Sportsman II heads (2.02/160 valves)
-.488 Cam
-Cast crank (Chevy 400)
-Sealed power pistons (Compression is 11.5:1)
-Hedman Long tube headers
-4" Cowl Induction hood
-Stock rearend (373?)
-Sealed power high perf oil pump
-Trans is Turbo350 with 3000 stall converter
-Rebuilt high perf clutches and sprag
That's about it. The car has other interior issues which need to be taken care of as well, such as no functioning guages but I intend try putting them in myself. It should be ready to go this week so i am excited. Hopefully all goes well with the build. Thanks guys.
i would say a little over 400 horsepower, but upwards of 460ft lbs of torque. strokers make awsome torque. sounds like one hell of a motor. That compression is up there, do you get any special gas or just run premium?
Nice looking car 383/stroker. And Timmy, I haven't driven the car yet with this setup but I was told to use premium with octane booster or 100 octane fuel whenever I can afford it. 400 hp would be great if that's what it ends up being. Although I am a bit worried about the stock rear end handling all that.
i know hwat u mean my motor has similar work done to it, but stock rear end. im always nervous when i porke it that im gonna hear loud snap and the thing come to a hault. yea with a compression over 10:1, it is advised you run on premium. if you ran on 87 gas now, your at a high chance of detonation, especially with those cast iron heads. running on premium should do alright, just keep it cooled down considerably. make sure you have a 160 degree thermostat, and dont let it go over 210 degrees. remember the more octane you run, the less you have to worry, but premium is a least.
