Default my 1/4 mile time

Itook my car to the 1/4 mile track in petersburg, va last night. I was a bit dissapointed with my times but what can you expect out of a 13 yo stock z28. It was my first time ever running down a drag strip so my driving was to blame a little too.
my first run my reaction time was .769, 60ft.- 2.297 and 1/4-15.480 @89.23
second run i tried manually shifting which didnt work very well r/t- .176 60ft-2.292 1/4-15.748@ 86.86
third run was better, instead of taking off from a dead idol i loaded it up and got
r/t-.112 60ft-2.164 1/4- 14.853@93.16
I think if i ran it again i could have got a faster time if i load it up harder and got a better take offbut after the third runthe test and tune line was about a mile longand it was getting late.
I had a lot of fun and cant wait to go back to see what i do next time. I thinkthe car needs a lower gear and im gonna put an exhaust system on it before igo back. maybe i can get into the low 14's then

yeah Im pretty sure i can do better than a 14.8 but im just learning how to launch it and it was my first time ever running on a track. i was nervous the firstrun and the second run i was experimenting with shifting manually which hurt me. The third time i loaded it up a little and took off faster. I really need to load it just until it feels like it wants to powerbrake and try taking off.
I'm going to change the gears to either a 3.73 or 4.10. but i dont know if the 4.10 will be too much or not. This is my secondary vehicle so im not concerned about gas milage but i dont want to cut the top end down too much. I want to get this car into mid to high 13's without going into the motor. I figure the best place to start is with the gear change.
I will wait until i change gears until i take it againIm gonna practice launching it and maybe i can squeeze a 13.999 out ofit.??

You just need practice. with a good driver LT1s can run high 13s however now they are all over 10 years old and most run low 14s. just practice your luanch and you should see your times fall below 14.4

yeah. the guy i bought the car from said that it ran a 13.8 at the same track i ran it at. when i came back to buy it the next day, he was in Richmond Va for a job or something and his dad was there and he told me the same story so i dunno. either they are telling me the same lie or the truth?? i didnt ask him how many miles were on it when they ran it(it has 150000 now) he said he had the heads worked, a valve job and head gaskets and stuff. He said he had slicks for it but i didnt buy them from him.

Not bad for your first time at the track. As stated above with practice mid 14s should be a easy mark stock. On a good day in richmondon slicks the car could have pulled a high 13 second pass and its even more posible if the engine has been rebuilt with some head work. With good ruber and gears you should be able to break into the 13s.

What do you think a new LT1 can run? And a modded one at that? A step up from stock.

Maybe a high 13 with a good rebuild and maybe a little head work when you are rebuilding it.

If it is in good condition it is capiable of a high 13 stock. However like I said earlier all the LT1s are over 10 years old now and most of the stock ones run low 14s at their best.

With mods the possiblitys are endless. With headers, exhuast and intake you should be able to run in the 13s.
