How far is the nearest Track from you?
Unfortunately in 2004, the only track in Long Island in the west hamptons was shut down, due to building of new condos there. Now the nearest one to us in new jersey. This is very pathetic. There is a huge street racing place over here called deer park avenue, which was really popular in the 90s but now are filled with cops and people barely race. I don't get it, government tries to stop street racing, but then they shut off drag racing tracks, where you can do it safely and legally. Now to go watch race, we have to go to another state.
How far is your commute to the nearest track?
btw here is a cool camaro video from the track in LI.

If you want to call Deer Park Ave a race track, then the closest track is only 2 blocks away. LOL. Aside from some young ricers getting written up by the police, there is very Little activity now. However, on Saturday mornings there is usually a bunch of very nice muscle cars parading up & down the avenue.
Since Westhampton closed, it is a toss up between Island Dragway in Hacketstown,NJ, or Old Bridge Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ, with Atco, NJ thrown in for variety. For just messing around and setting up cars, I prefer Hacketstown as it usually less crowded.
I started racing at Westhampton in 1955with my new 55 Chevy, right after getting my driver's license. The 1/4 mile was paved but the shutdown was dirt, which made it very interesting trying to keep the car under control

Ya, they should allow afterburners, but unfortuantely I don't think they do, unless it's on a special night The NHRA is kind enough to post conversion factors for the ET and trap speed, so it kinda makes up for it, but afterburners would be way cooler!
