Getting into strip racing
Hey I just got a new engine in my '83 and I want to take it to the strip to see what it can do. My question is can anyone just show up and run or do I have to set sumthin up ahead of time. Also if you guys have any tips for me id appreciate it. Thanks.
Ouroldtrack hada "time only" you can run. Usually between class races they call for time only cars and you go to the staging lanes and race whoever they put you with. Usually you got about 3-4 runs a night. That was when I had my truck, it was slow as hell, butI woulddo it just because it was$5 more than a regular ticket, so why not have fun down on the track instead of in the stands. The first time I ran(this was a 1/8 mile strip) I got beat by 3 full seconds, that's a lot of car lengths.
Call the strip & find out when they have test and tune time. Then bring your car there. It wil have to pass a sefety inspection.

At our old track they didn't look at anything, the only thing they were concerned about at allwas making sure you had at least one light on the rear of your car. Maybe that's why they are closed down now?
try to find the website for the strip near you and see if they have a calander, this will list there "test n tune" nights or street car nights.
my only advice is have fun and practice makes perfect. its fun to watch your times go down a few tenths of a second as you learn what your doing.
and also make sure you prestage-wait for other guy to prestage-then stage. just common curtosy and i hate when people don't do that

I agree, I call it common courtesy. The race is not getting to the starting line, but leaving the starting line and getting to the finish line. Racing on a strip is supposed to be a friendly activity, and all racers deserve respect, no matter what they are running.
At our strip any car can run, BUT they need to have a drive shaftloop and blowproof (steel)bellhousing. Thenonce your times and speeds are so fast they require the driver wear a helmet.
