Would I have to Bore out an LS1 to make it a 408 Stroker?
I saw the Lunati 408 Stroker Kit on the fbodymotorsports.com and wondered if an LS1 engine would have to be bored out or if it fits in there automatically?
I don't think you would want to bore out an aluminum block, except for a clean up bore. It can be done, but it will require new sleeves, not a cheap thing.
Yeh I saw a Lunati Kit for 3600. 408 stroker. I know I will need a new cam and heads. Pretty much almost a rebuild of the engine. Should I just get the LS1 block and just buy the stroker kit and go from there buying the parts I need?
You can't get 408 with an LS1: can't bore the aluminum cylinder walls. You get 408 with the iron block LS engine (Silverado) versions, which, being iron, has a bigger bore to begin with and thenyou can bore it 30 over. I believe the LS2 will go 408 or close enough to it however. the advantage of the cast iron though (the disadvantage is 90 lbs more weight) is that it is just about bulletproof at any horsepower level you want to build to . . .
This is probably the 408 stroker short block im gonna get this summer, its $3900 http://competitionproducts.com/products.asp?dept=817
So the kits ur going to get is that ne already the stroker block? That looks like what I want to do and a better way to do it also jus by getting the block and the stroker kit set up already.
The only way to get any kind of bore on the LS1 is to sleeve it and the Darton kit is the best way to go. It is very expensive and usually my customers opt to go with 427 inches since they are already there with the machinework.
The Darton Sleeve kit is a wet sleeve that allows you to get a fairly large bore. To attain the 427 cubic inches, we go with a 4.125 bore and a 4.00" stroke. I prefer the big bore and the shorter stroke to make the best use of the heads. It is not something a lot of engine shops can handle as the machinework is not able to be done at every machine shop. It cools better because of the uniform wall thickness. We have several of these in service.
I tried to upload the pictures that I have but they are too big. If you want to see what the finished product looks like, I can show you and you can easily see it. I thought I had some pics of the block as it is being machined. I do have those but with a 4.6 Ford. You can still get the concept.
Send me a PM with your e-mail address and I will be happy to send them to you.

So with this kits http://competitionproducts.com/products.asp?dept=817, are your basically putting in a new engine? Or are you just adding the internals to be a stroker?
