So yesterday I noticed that, no matter what gear I'm in, the car makes a weird noise at 3250 RPM's. It only does it going down the road. It doesn't do it in neutral. It kind of sounds like metal on metal but it's hard to describe. I know it's not the tranny. Maybe the clutch or camshaft? or crankshaft? Also sometimes when I'm sitting still with the car in neutral and the clutch let out, the car will make some funny squeaking noises. When it squeaks, you can feel a slight vibration in the motor. Ideas?

If it squeals while the clutch pedal is depressed, it is probably due to a bad throw out bearing. Noise at 3250 could be almost anything, but you may try removing the acessory belt and run the engine. If the noise is gone, then one of the things being driven by the belt is bad.

Will it hurt the motor to run the car down the block without the accessory belt on? Also I was wrong. It makes the noise at 2250 RPM's. Not 3250.

A short run around the block won't cause any harm, but a long ride will allow the engine to overheat and the battery to go dead. Can't rely on the temp gage if the water pump is not running.

Didn't you change from a two piece to a one piece driveshaft? And is that about when this started? The reason for the two piece shaft is to absorb vibrations that your V6 engine is known to give out. I don't know what you're hearing/feeling, so it's only a thought.

Yes this did start about then... But here's an update. Forget everything I said before about it only making the noise when the car is in gear. It does it in neutral too. It does it at exactly 2250 RPM's no matter what gear I'm in or if the car is sitting still or not.

Does it also do it in neutral with the clutch pedal down? That would take the trans itself out of the equation.

Can you post a video of it? You sure it's not a vibration, like a loose exhaust shield or rattling pipes?

I can't catch it on video. I've tried that numerous times now to try to explain it. But when my RPM's hit 2250, it sounds like two metal knife blades scraping each other.. Like in scary movies when the villain pulls out a knife. That's the best way I can describe the sound. Also it does it from 2250 to 2350 or so. It's louder at 2350 than at 2250
