What size cam do i use

Default What size cam do i use

I am purchasing a 383 stroker short block. I have vortec heads,edelbrock intake,and edelbrock 650 cfm carb. What is a good cam size to attain about 400 hp and good torque? Please help out a newbie!!!

call one of the cam makers customer service lines and tell them what you got and what you plan on doing with the car and they can get you closer than billybobjoegeorge..look up compcams or elderbrock and get there phone # and talk to them

I'm asuming their stock vortec heads. I had a mchine shop build them,I have roller rockers,screw in studs,and guide plates.

+1. Call up Edelbrock, Comp Cams, Crane, Crower, etc. and tell them what you've got and what you're doing with the car and they'll make a recommendation based on that info. If you can go with a hydraulic roller cam, that's the route to go. If you're block isn't originally set up for one, you can get a retro fit kit, but they're not cheap. Edelbrock probably has a cam that is matched to that intake/carb combo, so check that out too. Good luck!

Yes, call them up. Crane Cams, Edelbrock and Comp Cams all have good tech support/cam guys that will point you in the right direction. Called a couple of times to find parts that they've renamed/renumbered to replace stuff I have from a long time ago and they were very helpful.
