Just so I understand this right you want a 6.5 sec car for $4000 and what are you starting with you are going to need over 600 hp more like 700. If you have some stuff to start with like the 700 hp engine you may have a shot if not you are wayyyy under budget. Also sticks are fun but you will find most of the drag cars are autos the main reson is consistancy the second reason is parts breakage.

What are you starting out with, who's doing the work, and why does it have to be non street legal?

I would say to start with strengthen the car by installing a cage frame connectors may not be necessary with a full cage but I would do them anyhow also depending on the track you run at the cage need to be installed to spec,(ie sandwiched floor plated tie in subframe connectors) I have a friend whos family runs two third gens with a third on the way they use a ladderbar link setup in the rear I would research it because you will need to hook well, the rear end in you car goes to the scrap yard consider a aftermarket 9 inch rear or a 12 bolt. I still suggest going with an auto its just alot less trouble and consistant.TH400 is my choice stall depends on engine. You can get the car straightened around use a budget 350 to play around test the car than build your serious engine. I am a smallblock fan basically because of cost be at theat power level I would strongly consider a big block for the serrious engine in my opinion anything over 600 hp it is more economical to build a bigblock. This a link to a short clip of a blown 350 in a fbody at our local strip it is close to a 6.5 I am guessing but I think the engine cost isover $10,000. I tried to post it as a thumbnail but it will not work <center>
