Strokin a 305/has anyone done it?
Call me crazy but I've never built a bottom end and I have a set of redone GM 601 Hipo 305 heads and Comp Cams 1.6 roller rockers. I think the combo with an Edelbrock Performer RPM I have and a good Comp cam would do well in my 3rd Gen.
Any input would be appreciated or I could build a 350 bottom end with the GM 601 heads? I think the 335ci stroked 305 would match the 601 heads very well as I'm preping to port and polish them.
Thanks,
Roy

There has been alot of discussion about the 350 tpi head on other forums personally I think it is a great head for a 305 but for a 350 the vortec is a much better choice. Stroking a 305 is interesting but you just will not be at where you would be with a 350. It just because the bore is smaller and you can get head to flow more air into a 350 than a 305 all things being equal. To be real straight with you check on http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/login.phpI think the guys name is fbird he seams to have good experience with the 305 head.... but I personallly believe when you add every thing up the vortec is more cost efficient for the 350. Good luck
Thanks again Griff, you are correct in that a 350/383 compared to the 305/335 is a far superior combination. New plan: port & polish the 601 heads, install comp 1.6 roller rockers with correct length pushrods and springs to ride on my Edelbrock Performer Cam [will net .448/.472] and Performer RPM intake and run the thing untill I build a 350/383 or it "blows up" This combo should yeild @ 275 hp and Tq and be ok for the time being.
