steel for forged crank

Default steel for forged crank

hey guys....

im wondering how to tell if the crankshaft in my chevy smallblock 350 is steel....

if you guys could help me out...i would really appreciate it

Depends what you mean by Steel. Forged Cranks are Steel amd Cast Cranks are also Steel/Iron. If you mean which is Stronger that is another Question and a Forged part will always be stronger. A stock SBC chevy will have a Cast Steel or Iron crankshft

well how do i tell if i got the stronger one..cause im gonna put this engine in a 87 s-15...i want it to be as strong on the bottom end as possible... cause i hear people say building an engine without building the bottom of it is a waste....


keep in mind this is my first time building and engine...i do have help with it....

It will not make much diffenence which one it is because I do Not think you will be making that much power. My opinion. Again I would think its a Cast nodular Iron crank.

To need a forged crank, you will really need serious power, as a first time builder, its doubtfull that you will build an engine over 4-500 hp, you might get into problems with engines with more power than that but even then you could still be fine.
