Default Rebuild Question

I am rebuilding a 350 and have a few questions. I am getting it bored .040 over. Im looking for a basic rebuild kit for a good price. Im looking to get around 400hp out of it. What rebuild kit would be best for this? And also would a two bolt be able to hold that much power and be reliable? Im wanting this car to be street/strip car.

Just be sure to take your block and crank in to get worked on before you order any kind of kit. You'll need to make sure that an .040 overbore is going to work, although .030 is "safer". And the crank may need to be ground down, meaning you'll need the kit with the correct undersize bearings.

If you are going to have the block done by a Machine shop, I would have them check it. I used a balanced set, and had it rebalanced with the flywheel. I am over cautious in everything. I saw it as $250 worth of insurance. Here is a price list to give you an idea of what you are looking at. This is the place that did my engine. My problem is that I over think everything. I guess I am OCD just a little.

I would recommend buying the assembly and then taking it all...and the block to the machine shop. Tell them that you want it bored .040, clearanced for assembly, cleaned and cam bearings installed. If you piecemeal the assembly together you will need to have it balanced. While it is there have them check to ensure that the mains are not out of round and may as well get new freeze plugs installed. Buy ARP main studs and don't worry about it.
