Default Oil/Transmission coolers?

Is it true that I can use a transmission cooler as an oil cooler? My buddy has a few auto tranny coolers that he said you could use as oil coolers. I think he's right, but i just thought id check.

Yes sir. You need to get a sandwhich filter adapter with an input and an output. Then you can tap in for an extra oil pressure switch or temp gauge.

If possible, get two of them, since tranny coolers tend to be smaller than oil coolers, and more oil means cooler temps anyway. You should also get the biggest filter that'll fit the car without risk of damage from bottoming out.

Oh, and NEVER buy a filter at Walmart. Everything they sell there is made of cardboard, and tends to dissolve and clog more passages than the things you're filtering out in the first place.

Just for Reference. Transmission Coolers had generally smaller tubes in them than do oil coolers. The problem becomes oil volume when a small orifice is used and creates a restriction. Places that should be heavily oiled in the engine tend to be starved and create a problem like trashed main bearings if the restriction is great enough.

In that case, couldn't two tranny coolers in parallel handle the issue pretty well, or would that not be enough?

It'll restrict the oil and drop your oil pressure. For the money, you should just go with a standard oil cooler.
